Birmingham – The Second City

[vc_row bg_type=”bg_color” css=”.vc_custom_1547466323475{padding-bottom: 60px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Birmingham has changed rapidly over the last few years and is quickly turning itself into a world-class city. With more developments being built, improved travel infrastructure and large businesses moving to the city, Birmingham has been creating a name for itself and we are excited to be in the middle of it.

Check out the changes that are happening below:

High Speed 2

You cannot talk about the future of Birmingham and not mention the High Speed 2 network – connecting Birmingham with London (phase 1) and further North (phase 2), it will connect the capital to Birmingham and allows commuters to complete their journey in just 49 minutes. Curzon Street Station – a derelict building in the Eastside – is now being earmarked as the main station, meaning getting to London will be a lot easier (and quicker).

Metro extension to Digbeth

The route of a new Midland Metro tram extension through the heart of Digbeth has been chosen. This is key for us as Digbeth is a massive development hotspot for us. Transport chiefs have opted to run the trams along High Street Deritend, serving key locations such as the coach station and Custard Factory. This extension will allow commuters to get from one side of the city to another, in a short amount of time.

The tram extension is a key part of the wider Birmingham Curzon HS2 Masterplan which has been drawn up by the city council and Centro to lay down a blueprint for the redevelopment of 350 acres of land around the HS2 station.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1547051497403{margin-top: -20px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/2″][qodef_single_image enable_image_shadow=”no” image=”6743″][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][qodef_single_image enable_image_shadow=”no” image=”6753″][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Paradise Birmingham (formerly Circus)

With the new library and renovations to The REP it was only a matter of time before the surrounding area would be improved too. Say hello to ‘Paradise Birmingham’! The area will become a mixed use development consisting of commercial, civil, retail, leisure and hotel space, providing safe pedestrian access to the new areas and also to the historic Victoria Square. Work has started on the area, with phase 2 set to be completed in 2025.

Smithfield Market

If you think of Birmingham you might also think ‘market’ – the rag market to be exact. With the indoor and outdoor market still going, located just behind the Bullring, developers have been looking at how they can incorporate this into a brand new shopping area and central square – with a space for residential homes. The scheme is still under review, however we think it’ll be the Spitalfields of the Midlands.

HSBC

With a steel frame already in place and the floors taking shape, it was announced over a year ago that global banking giant HSBC had confirmed they were moving their headquarters from London to Birmingham City Centre (directly over the road from our One Five One development). Ironically HSBC’s roots in the UK began in Birmingham with the then named bank ‘Midlands Bank’ which opened in 1836 – it’s only right that they decided to move back. With such a well known, global business moving to Birmingham, it won’t be long before others follow.

With so many exciting changes coming to the city, it’s only right that the city offers the same luxury buildings for people to live here. Court now offer direct sales through Court Living.
