Planning submitted for luxury New Garden Square residential development in Edgbaston

Award-winning residential property developer, Court Collaboration, has submitted a planning application to deliver 392 high-quality apartments as part of the wider New Garden Square regeneration, off Hagley Road on the Calthorpe Estate.

Court Collaboration’s proposals include a mix of spacious one, two and three-bedroom properties, with a range of private car parking spaces. Subject to planning approval, the scheme will be Court’s third Build-to-Rent project in the region and will deliver circa £90 million GDV. 

The scheme is a key aspect of the wider New Garden Square masterplan being developed by Calthorpe Estates and U+I. Court Collaboration agreed acquisition terms on the landmark site from Calthorpe Estates earlier this summer and will work alongside the company to deliver the luxury residential offering.

“Work is set to begin next spring, when we’ll be applying a range of modern construction methods to make the most of sustainable building and the highest quality product, with completion anticipated by Q2 2022.”

New Garden Square will see the transformation of the outdated commercial estate into a vibrant 10.7-acre mixed-use destination, which will encompass up to 500,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation, residential properties, bars, restaurants and convenience stores. The scheme will be set around a new high quality public realm garden square, formed from an eclectic series of gardens and mature trees, and will retain the existing Grade II listed buildings fronting Hagley Road.

 It will benefit the Metro extension up the Hagley Road from Birmingham city centre, with an Edgbaston Village terminus stop opposite the scheme. The new SPRINT network will follow the Metro’s arrival and continue along Hagley Road to Halesowen and Dudley in advance of the arrival of HS2.
